I am loving the look of Hornby Island Caravans. It looks like they can craft well in that space between full-size tiny houses a la Tumbleweed and craft caravans of the Pennsic Homeowners Association.
I’d like to commission one with these specs:
- Aurora style. This means arched roof, T&G interior, shiplap exterior, 7.5 feet width, 16 foot length. Fully insulated. New trailer.
- Default color scheme and materials, to include lighting.
- Double glazed windows with screens (see diagrams below).
- Long high windows on tail end and both sides toward tail end.
- Small windows elsewhere.
- Windowed door on passenger side wall, forward of (or over) wheels.
- Electric panel with outlets and RV hookup.
- Water heater in tongue end.
- Space heater (Dickinson marine heater) mid-wall on driver’s side, vented.
- Propane tank outside on tongue with lines for water heater, stove burners, and space heater.
- Rough-in for hot water and cold water in
two locationsone location: - Mid-way between driver’s side wall and center point on the tongue-end wall.
- Rough-in for grey water drain in two locations:
- Driver’s side corner on tongue end (shower area).
- Center of tongue end (sink area).
- Fresh water tank with RV hookup.
- Grey water tank with RV hookup.
From the list on the site:
- Bed frame – no
- Cupboard and shelving – no
- Desk – no
- Lighting and baseboard heater – lighting only
- T+g pine ceiling – yes
- Hardwood or bamboo floors – bamboo
- Ply or t+g panel walls – t+g
- Random installed untreated cedar shingles – no, Aurora shiplap
- EPDM roofing – yes
- Appliances – water heater and gas marine heater
Willing to accept some substitutions on materials if a builder other than Hornby Island does the job.
Kind of something a bit like this:
Edited 2015-06-08: Amended to one rough-in for hot/cold water between shower area and sink area. New floorplan:
Not depicted – gas lines to heater, water heater, and to the passenger side of kitchen area for stove burners. Also not depicted – electrical system or venting for gas appliances, nor freshwater or grey water tanks.

I want to leave my options for appliances, fixtures, and furnishings wide open. Here’s one option:
Rustic Bathroom by Seattle Photographers The Tiny Tack House
Why unfurnished, when I’ve given so much thought over the last seven years to layout? I realized that my life is constantly changing. It’s changed so much just over those seven years. If I freeze my space into one configuration, it’ll be no good when my needs change again.
