Top 40 This Week – Part 1

I frequently feel like a pop culture illiterate, especially concerning music these days. I tune out for long periods and this last has been the longest. So today I looked up the top 40 so I could sample some of these over the course of the next few days. After the third one, I realized that I wanted to post reviews. So here we are.

By the way, even though the below links go to Youtube, I listened to these without watching the videos, so each song can stand on its own merits.

USA Singles Top 40 (1 through 10)

Dark Horse
Katy Perry
It’s okay but I sort of zoned out.
Drunk In Love
Beyonce & Jay-Z
Ew. Do not like.
Pitbull & Ke$ha
This is hokey, but I sort of like it.
Talk Dirty
Jason Derulo & 2 Chainz
Funky. I like it. As you might expect, naughty.
Counting Stars
Style reminds me of the late 90s. Wow, the message is hitting me right where I live.
Let Her Go
I think I’ve actually heard this one before. I like it a lot.
Say Something
A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera
Sad. I like it.
Pharrell Williams
How can I not like this? It’s delightful.
The Monster
Eminem & Rihanna
I really, really like it. It has a lot of aural elements I like and lyrics that resonate. In fact, I’m gonna play it again right now.
Can’t Remember To Forget You
Shakira & Rihanna
Another one I really like. It’s pretty skippity.
