A Crisper Look

I'm trying out a new template for my journal pages at the moment. One of my long-standing minor peeves with the previous template has been its failure to adapt to very short entries. Witness my last entry. I kept building more and more white space into the body, hoping it would keep the tables the right shape for even the briefest of entries, but I was wrong.

I also wanted a cripser look, something less thick and clunky. Something more sharp.

I am trying this new look for now, having gotten rid of the heinously constructed, over-complicated tables and re-done them from scratch in a much simpler way. The two cells that experience the most growth and contraction, the menu cell to the left and this entry cell right here, are now "lined" with a background image so that if one cell is shorter than the other, there is something interesting-looking to take up the "slack".

This template is evolving. There's a new color scheme I want to move to, and I'm not at all sure the background I'm using is one I want to stick with.

Here is a mockup of what the template is supposed to look like with a long entry in it. Hopefully it looks like that now. I won't know until I press the "Submit" button. This is what it should look like with an extremely short entry. Yes, it's on purpose that the left column expands upward while the right column expands downwad. It just really looked a lot more interesting to me that way. It makes me think of a kitchen drawer with two silverware trays in it - sliding the drawer out, then moving the trays around inside there. I dunno, makes no sense, but it was an appealing image for me.
