Words for Snow
It is said that Yiddish has as many words for obnoxious people as the Eskimo
people have words for snow. (There's a lot of controversy in "official
circles" on the snow thing, but you get the picture.) I'm finding that
there are even more words in hacker jargon for
failure, in various flavors and colors. You have failure of people (to
include companies and departments as well as individuals), failure of
hardware, failure of software, and failure of various data elements. Each
kind of failure has multiple possible causes, scenarios, and effects, and
all of these lend immense nuance to each term, be it a noun, verb,
adjective, whatever.
I'd link to all of the ones I've found so far, in the in-between times of
training at NegiYo, but in all that time (and it has been a lot), I have
only gotten halfway through the letter "C", and have already found so many
that listing them here would take another week.
For instance, a brittle piece of software may be prone to choke and even go casters-up.
