Staten Island Ferry

These pictures were taken year before last. I used to like to take the kids up to Staten Island and take the ferry over to Manhattan to have adventures. One time we went looking for the Space Station on the 4, 5, and 6 made famous (at least to us) by The Sound of Urchin.

Actually, Broadway-Nassau is not on the 4, 5, and 6, just the 4 and 5. Well, really, it's not even on the 4 and 5, but rather on the A and C. What makes it a space station is that it's an interconnected series of four stations on four lines - one of them named Broadway-Nassau (serving the A and C), and the other three named Fulton Street (serving lines J, M, Z, 2, 3, 4, and 5). It's a sprawling and multidimensional space, but hard to find if you're a non-native with limited experience in the subway, and you're looking for it on foot, because the ferry didn't deposit you near any of the lines listed above.

Well, anyway, you could do a lot worse than take the ferry over and play all day, checking out neighborhoods, exploring the subways, meeting up with folks. I learned so many little things and saw so much. I miss the city.
