Bigass Conjectures

I'm no great log file detective, so I could be way wrong, but it looks as though someone has gotten into a very bizarrely habitual way of browsing my site. If the referrer data is to be believed, what happened was:

Once upon a time someone wanted some porn. They must have heard that bigass.com is a place for porn, but being something of a web neophyte, instead of entering bigass.com in the navigation bar (that big blank space next to "Address" in the top of a web window) they entered the search string "bigass.com" into the default search engine that comes up when they start their web browser. (By the way, I do not recommend you got to bigass.com, as it may entrap you in endless popup windows and exitstitials.)

I have a page on my site called bigass list of entries which is merely what it says, a linked list of all my journal entries. There is no porn.

Just to be sure you understand me - there IS NO PORN.

BUT! But, this visitor, knowing that bigass.com is a place for porn, and assuming that since the search led to my site, it must be full of porn too, started looking at journal entries, but never did find any porn.

The funny thing is, this kind of search didn't happen once, this happened many times. And it started right about the time that the rumor went out among some of our friends that there is porn at my site. And every search began with Yahoo! And although a variety of IP addresses are represented (meaning several different people in several different places did the search), a couple of IP ranges turn up more than the others.

Odd things to think about. Maybe this is how that rumor got started. And maybe it's not. There's an awful lot of conjecture up there. All I have is a bunch of stuff that looks like this:

12.23.198.254 - - [18/Sep/2001:14:24:33 -0400]
"GET /connected/masterlist.htm HTTP/1.1" 200 47306
"http://google.yahoo.com/bin/query?p=www.bigass.com&hc=0&hs=0"
"Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.01; Windows NT 5.0)"

*shrug* Hey, if it isn't true, it still makes for a great story.
