Memory Lane - Bomb Squad Edition

Part Three

The top thing is my flight line pass to the airport in Dahran. Of course all the Arabic writing is my name and height and weight and all that. When it was made, this guy asks me how I spell my name. I later learned that this is the wrong question to ask, as letters in English and in Arabic do not directly correspond. The guy doing the laminating asked me, to be sure, if my name was Staskya Dow. Hence the whiteout. The Arabic letters for Stacy Dew correspond more or less to Stese Deu.

The bottom thing is my RAOC TOC pass. Toward the part where Desert Shield was becoming Desert Storm, we worked in the rear, at the Rear Area Operations Command Temporary Operations Center. Geeze I hope I remembered all that right. By that time I had got rather good (for those days) at Harvard Graphics, so they asked me to make the passes. That beehive logo is their unit patch emblem. I actually specialized in strip maps, so this was a big challenge to me, with all them curves and stuff, but they were pleased. The TOC was at the Expo Center, which was where a scud was intercepted right over our heads and bits and pieces came thumping down, shaking the structure and making stuff fall off the walls. Lot more memories at the Expo, but that's for another time.
